In 1898, a group of farmers in Emuclaw, Washington formed an insurance company to enable them to have affordable farm casualty insurance. In 1943, the company expanded its offerings to cover more than catastrophic loss caused by fire or lightning, and in 1947, offered service to consumers other than farm owners. The year 1962 brought a merger with Oregon’s Butteville Insurance Company that resulted in a combined asset base of five millions dollars. The name Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company was officially adopted in 1966. Since that time, the company has grown exponentially and at the end of 2008 reported overall premium at the $300 million mark. Mutual of Enumclaw offers auto insurance in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. The company offers a Young Driver Safety Program, including a video for teenage drivers and informational pamphlets for their parents about raising responsible drivers. Insurance coverage is offered for automobiles, campers and trailers, motorhomes, and motorcycles, and discounts are available for AAA members and drivers over 55.
